TRUST & SECURITY
Your script stays yours.
A practical overview of how Paper Bark handles screenplay files, accounts, licences and payments.
Last updated: 4 October 2026
Local-first by default
Paper Bark is a desktop application. Screenplay projects are stored locally on your computer by default. Paper Bark does not automatically upload every script simply because you use the editor.
Optional cloud synchronisation
Cloud sync is optional. When you choose to synchronise a project, selected project data is transmitted to Paper Bark’s cloud infrastructure so it can be backed up or restored. Cloud services are built on Amazon Web Services infrastructure.
Ownership of creative work
You keep ownership of your screenplay, characters, dialogue, ideas and other creative material. Paper Bark does not claim ownership of your work.
Paper Bark does not sell screenplay content and does not use screenplay content to train generative AI models unless a separate feature is introduced with clear notice and any legally required choice or consent.
Accounts and passwords
Paper Bark accounts use your name and email address for account, licence and support functions. Passwords are handled through WordPress/WooCommerce authentication and are stored in protected hashed form rather than as readable plain-text passwords.
Password reset links are sent to the registered email address. Customers should use a unique password and keep access to their email account secure.
Licence validation
Paper Bark may send account, licence, application-version and device/installation identifiers to its licensing services to activate a trial or paid licence, confirm licence validity and enforce permitted device limits.
Payments
Payments are processed through WooPayments and PayPal. Paper Bark does not need to store your full card number or card security code when payment details are handled by the payment provider. Paper Bark may retain order, billing, transaction-status and limited payment-reference information required for purchase records, support, tax and fraud prevention.
Website analytics
Paper Bark uses Google Analytics 4 through Google Site Kit for website analytics and conversion measurement. Non-essential tracking is subject to applicable consent requirements. See the Cookie Policy for details.
Transmission and access
Paper Bark uses HTTPS/TLS for website and API communications where supported. Access to production systems and customer data should be limited to authorised access required for operation, support, security and legal obligations.
Backups and responsibility
No computer or cloud service can guarantee that data will never be lost. Keep independent backups of important screenplay projects, especially projects stored only on your device.
Security reports
If you believe you have found a security issue affecting Paper Bark, do not publicly disclose customer data or exploit the issue. Send a clear description to info@paperbark.eu so it can be investigated.
