Screenplay projects stored locally remain on your computer unless you:

  • Otherwise instruct Paper Bark to transfer the project.

Paper Bark does not automatically obtain ownership of or unrestricted access to screenplay files stored only on your device.

We process cloud-synchronised project content only to provide features such as:

Paper Bark does not claim ownership of your screenplay, characters, dialogue, ideas or other creative work.

We do not sell screenplay content or use it for advertising. Paper Bark does not use your screenplay content to train generative artificial-intelligence models unless a separate feature is introduced and you are given clear information and any legally required choice or consent.

Projects stored only on your computer are primarily under your control.

  • Avoid sharing account or device access with unauthorised people.

Deleting the Paper Bark application, resetting your computer or deleting application folders may also delete locally stored data.

8. Cloud Synchronisation Is Optional

Paper Bark will not upload a locally stored screenplay merely because the application is installed.

Project content is uploaded when you choose to synchronise it or use another feature that clearly requires transmission.

Before using cloud synchronisation, ensure that you have the right to upload the content, especially where a screenplay includes:

  • Confidential production information;
  • Personal data relating to cast, crew or third parties;
  • Material owned jointly with another writer;
  • Material covered by an NDA; or
  • Content belonging to an employer, school or production company.

Automated licence checks may determine whether a trial or paid licence is active or expired. These checks concern access to the purchased software plan and can be reviewed by contacting support if you believe the result is incorrect.

Where a school, production company or other organisation provides Paper Bark access to its members:
